China's biomass energy "going global"

According to the International Energy Agency (IEA) bioenergy official website, China has recently joined the international organization's technical cooperation program (TCP), bringing the number of parties to the agreement to 26.


In the view of the industry, China's accession to TCP is of great significance for IEA's strategic development and cross regional cooperation, as well as for building a beautiful China.


International cooperation brings growth opportunities


"IEA is an important platform for global energy governance and an international cooperation organization promoting biomass energy applications." Xiao Mingsong, deputy director of the Advisory Research Center of China Renewable Energy Society, told China Science Daily, "joining the organization will enable China to deeply understand the energy policies and development trends of governments of all countries, expand international cooperation and exchanges, and provide better services for research and consultation in the field of domestic biomass."


Zhuang Huiyong, vice chairman of Energy Investment Committee of China Investment Association, believes that China's biomass energy development has been tepid. Joining TCP is not only conducive to the exchange and cooperation of international advanced technology and experience, but also to the better integration and development of China's biomass energy policy, technology and industry.


Up to now, China's biomass energy technology development and large-scale application field has had very good international cooperation and successful experience in the transformation and promotion of technological achievements.


According to Zhuang Huiyong, in the field of agricultural and forestry biomass thermoelectricity, since the introduction of BWE advanced biomass specific combustion technology and complete set of boiler equipment in Europe in 2004, after more than ten years, China has fully realized localization and application in many industrial projects, project operation stability and various parameters are far ahead at home and abroad. From this point of view, it also shows the importance of strengthening cooperation with advanced technologies in the field of global biomass energy.


Technical innovation still needs support


At present, more and more countries pay attention to the rational and efficient development and utilization of renewable resources such as biomass energy. Xiao Mingsong said that biomass energy is an important renewable energy. At present, 40% of the world's energy consumption comes from biomass energy.


China is a traditional agricultural country with abundant biomass energy resources. Xiao Mingsong told reporters that for the treatment of biomass waste, there are mainly direct combustion, physical and chemical transformation, biochemical transformation and other ways. Among them, biotransformation mainly includes retorting technology, biomass gasification technology and thermal cracking technology.


"High end fuel oil, synthetic fiber, special materials, biomedicine, health products, etc. produced by biomass thermochemistry or microorganism are the research frontiers in the fields of biomass energy, material science and traditional Chinese medicine." Zhuang Huiyong said.


In recent years, China has made continuous breakthroughs in the research and development of biomass energy technology. Not long ago, the research group of Professor Jiang Hong of China University of science and technology and the research group of Professor Yu Hanqing successfully prepared high calorific value and stable solid-phase bio coal and high-performance carbon nano materials by coupling rapid pyrolysis, atmospheric distillation and chemical vapor deposition technology, which provided important technical support for the commercialization of waste biomass pyrolysis technology. The results were published in scientific progress and nature sustainability respectively.


However, in the past two or three years, there have been some problems in different application technology routes of biomass energy and the stability of industrial support policies, which have puzzled the technological innovation and industrial practice of the industry.


Zhuang Huiyong believes that according to the actual development in recent years, China's biomass energy industry has not developed on a large scale, which is definitely not a problem of "resources" and "raw material collection". In addition to technological innovation and industrial investment, what is more important is the government's clear goal planning and sustained support policies.


"According to the current situation of China's resources and industrial practice, we have many successful engineering cases and the whole industrial chain supporting system." "If the state strengthens the policy support and guidance for science, technology and industry, it will promote a greater role in various application modes of biomass," said Zhuang


Seeking long-term development


Zhuang Hui will always emphasize that the multiple utilization of biomass energy is an important means to reduce fossil energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions on a large scale in the world at present and in the future. People can get the necessary electricity, heat, transportation fuel and so on from the rural and urban residues.


In Zhuang Huiyong's view, the current biomass energy in China can quickly achieve large-scale and industrialization is agroforestry biomass thermoelectricity.


In his opinion, agroforestry biomass thermoelectricity is a stable, high-quality power and clean heat source, and a sustainable path to solve the problem of straw burning and turning waste into treasure in agricultural areas. In addition, the production of biogas from wet waste such as livestock manure is a powerful way to solve the environmental pollution in agricultural areas, which turns waste into fertilizer and harm into profit.


Moreover, biomass energy has the attribute of high-quality renewable energy, and it also has the ecological and economic social benefits such as rural and urban solid waste environmental protection treatment, emission reduction and income increase.


Zhuang Huiyong said that the multi-path application of agricultural and forestry waste thermoelectricity and other multi-channel applications, livestock manure, fertilizer, gas thermoelectricity and other multi-path applications can help the development of modern agriculture, is an effective means of new rural construction and targeted poverty alleviation, an inevitable choice of rural energy revolution, and a strong starting point to solve the "three rural" problem in China.
